Moms and Dads, you know your kids are full of questions—all. the. time. But right now, they are full of questions that they might not be able to verbalize and that we don’t have good answers for.

Before we start…

Find a small container with a lid for each person, add some uncooked rice or beans and seal those lids. These are your shakers for a song we’ll sing later.

I’ve Got the Joy

Sometimes we are full of joy and are confident in God’s love for us. But sometimes we are not. Having doubts or feelings that change is normal. And Jesus understands.

Watch and listen to this story from the Bible.

Thomas had doubts. Did Jesus say “That’s too bad”? NO!

Was He angry that Thomas didn’t believe right away? NO!

Jesus loves us when we have doubts and questions.

Jesus loves us when we have sad or angry feelings. We can tell Him about how we feel and what we have questions about. We can say, “I just don’t know.”

We have been singing this song a lot recently, but I think it is worth singing again! The song says, “In my wrestling, in my doubts, in my failures, You won’t walk out. Your great love will lead me through. You are the peace in my troubled sea.”

Use your shaker and sing along!

Discussion

Moms and Dads, Grandmas and Grandpas, tell about a time you had doubts or big questions about God. What helped you in that time?

Kids, what about you? What doubts or questions do you have?

What do you know about Jesus that can help you even if you don’t get answers to all your questions right away?

Prayer Activities

List it!

Make a list of things you know about God. How do you know these things? Thank God for who He is and what He has done.

Complete the Prayer

Have each person in your family complete one of these sentence starters as you pray together:
Dear God, I feel …
I wonder …
I wish …
Help me to …
Thank You for …

Scribble Prayers

On a sheet of paper use a black crayon to draw a line that scribbles all over the paper, overlapping and making different shapes. Fill in the shapes you made with colors you like. As you color, breathe deeply and tell God about your feelings and questions. You can tell your family what you are praying about, or you can let it be just between you and God.
