As Holy Week progresses, the fanfare of Palm Sunday quickly ceases, and confusion, anger, betrayal, and death take their turns. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. It is a dark day, full of mourning, loss, silence, and despair. Love entered the world, and the world rejected Love.

It is human nature to try to escape uncomfortable situations. When we have tension in our relationships or pain in our bodies, we do anything we can to fix it. We want it resolved. We prefer joy, triumph, and jubilee. Good Friday insists we sit in our losses, our pain, and the costly nature of sin. It is good for us to reflect on Christ’s death. It is good for us to reflect on how we contributed to it.

We have created a short video to allow for reflection on God’s costly love. The reading comes directly from John’s gospel and is accompanied with artistic renditions of Jesus’ passion.

On this Good Friday, may we sit at the foot of the cross and remember Jesus’ loving death.
